Building Community

Right now, I am craving deep Christian friendship. I have many friends here but I just feel like all of our conversations are just surface level. I think that the reason  professional counselors exist is because we are too afraid to have deep friendships where we listen to each other, and understand each other so that we don't give half-baked advice because we weren't really understanding the full situation. I am thankful for those friendships that I do have all over the states though. During this time I have been so close to the Lord which is beautiful.

1/27/14 Monday Week 5 Day 3
This morning I taught ESL at the SA with a bengali lady who is just starting to learn English. She is struggling. Pray that she will be eager to learn English and that I will boldly share the gospel with her. Grace's friends Anna and Hank need prayer for transparency in their relationship. I studied this afternoon and met a former student and gave her a New Testament. Pray for her that she reads it and that it will change her life. Later I taught ESL at night and talked with a student about divorce and why Christians get divorced and what the Bible says about divorce. She is open to hear more about God, pray that she would accept the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

1/28/14 Tuesday Week 5 Day 4
Today I studied all morning and then headed to Kid's Club. The kids were eager to recite their Bible verses already even though they don't have to until Thursday. Then I headed to the African Center in Brooklyn. Sarita was there to help teach. Praise God for volunteers at the centers. I was able to talk to my Granny and Mom tonight so I'm thankful for that.

1/29/14 Wednesday Week 5 Day 5
Today was full of studying for seminary. I'm so thankful that studying seminary classes brings me joy and refreshment. Then I was able to go to Bible study. Beth, a missionary who lived in India for 7 years flew in tonight and is staying at the beachhouse for her time here.

1/30/14 Thursday Week 5 Day 6
Today I was able to meet Beth and learn more about her. I'm so thankful that she is her. We came to the South Asian Center and ate lunch with Larry and Camille. Later I helped with Kid's Club and two children remembered the verse from last week. Pray that these verses change their lives and that they seek Christ. I taught ESL literacy class tonight and my students are so kind. Later I was able to Skype my mom and sisters and that was great.

1/31/14 Friday Week 5 Day 7
Today I had a meeting to go to for Urban Nations Outreach. Then I had a long afternoon of study. I then had class and we studied tracing scripture. I pray that I can understand tracing better so that I can interpret scripture correctly.

2/1/14 Saturday Week 6 Day 1
Today was a long but good day of exegesis of Paul's letters. I love learning more about God's Word. Then I headed home and hand washed my clothes and studied. Saturdays are so long because I have to get up at 4:30 in the morning to make it to class on time. A classmate has said that I can stay with her on Friday nights that we have class. Praise God for people who share their house.

2/2/14 Sunday Week 6 Day 2
Today I taught the 4th-6th grade Sunday School class about the armor of God. They had so many great questions and knew a lot about it already. Then church worship was full of how the body of Christ should be, unity, the fruit of kindness and missions to the ends of the earth. Praise God for friends (Camille) who give a humidifier to a southern girl whose sinuses are not used to radiators!

Thank you for your prayers and support,

May the grace and peace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you,

Amy Drake
