Rest.
These past two weeks have been busy and I hope to post weekly from now on. Also, if I have not written or called you back; I will as soon as I can.
These are just snip its from my journal:
Week 3 Day 3
January 13, 2014
Today was great! Rebekah came back earlier than I thought so I will not be alone at the beach house. I taught ESL this morning with Yeshi. Pray that she comes to know Jesus as her Savior. I was able to spend time with some SAC volunteers and we shared prayer requests with one another. One bought me lunch! Thank God for provision. Then I read Acts and Romans and love how radical the apostles were. That's how we should be now too. Then I taught ESL at night. Pray that they would see Christ in me and that they would accept Him.
Week 3 Day 4
January 14, 2014
Today I helped tutor children afterschool. Pray that them and their families would accept the Gospel of Jesus Christ and that the children would learn the importance of obedience. Later, I went to Brooklyn to teach ESL at the AFC. I had five students come and they were on three different levels but God gave me the ability to balance all the work. Pray that they would know Jesus personally.
Week 3 Day 5
January 15, 2014
Today I helped teach ESL and I motivated a beginner to move up and she did amazingly well in the higher class. Pray for her and all our students. Pray that there would be more volunteers and staff to help with our overflowing ESL classrooms. I was able to rest this afternoon. Thank God for rest. Then I had Bible study. Thank God for friendship, discipleship, and fellowship!
Week 3 Day 6
January 16, 2014
Today I helped with Kid's Club and it was great. The kids were so eager to recite their Bible verse! Pray that the Word of God would take root in their hearts. Then I helped with night ESL classes. The students were soaking in the Bible story. I pray that these stories will change their lives in the Ultimate Way.
Week 3 Day 7
January 17, 2014
Today we had a staff meeting and I'm thankful for the UNO staff. God revealed a lot of truth through the story of Abraham and a lot about sacrifice. Thank God for revealing truth and for an evening of rest.
Week 4 Day 1
January 18, 2014
Thank God for a long day of rest, laundry, and an awesome roommate who cooked supper. Pray for Rebekah as she is in the process of moving to a new apartment! Pray that God will provide for her every need, right now a car would be great for her.
Week 4 Day 2
January 19, 2014
Today I was able to help a Dominican four year old in Sunday School. She only speaks spanish. I asked her in spanish "What is temptation?" and she said "when you want to sin." Usually four year olds just shrug their shoulders at that question but she was spot on. In worship we talked about prayer and five people were baptized! Praise God! I had a late night dinner with a friend. Pray that God continues to guide her on her journey to step out in boldness to proclaim God's name in NYC. God is good.
Week 4 Day 3
January 20, 2014
I taught ESL this morning and then went back home to get a package which arrived just as I got home. Praise God for His awesome timing. Then I headed back to the South Asian Center to teach Emma, Armajeet, and Karma. Pray that I would have endless opportunities to share the Gospel with them.
Week 4 Day 4
January 21, 2014
Today I went to Kid's Club but there was a blizzard so no kids came. I'm thankful for public transit. The staff had some good quality time though before we had our long journeys home. Pray that God's perfect work will be done in our students', staff's, volunteers' lives and in our ministry. Ask God to build His kingdom here.
Week 4 Day 5
January 22, 2014
Today was a snow day and a study day. Thank God for rest and trust.
Week 4 Day 6
January 23, 2014
Today was full of Jesus' baptism. All of our ESL classes used this story and so did our Kid's Club. All our students asked many questions and we were able to share a lot with them. Pray for them to want to know more.
Week 4 Day 7
January 24, 2014
Today we had a staff meeting and I went grocery shopping too. Thankful for people who have given and supported me so that I am able to buy groceries. I'm also thankful for the UNO staff who prays over me whenever I have a need. Rebekah and I had a late lunch and then I went to seminary class. The people there are great. Pray that I can be a good steward of my time with balancing all these things.
Week 5 Day 1
January 25, 2014
Today I had class all day and then I kept some children during a worship service. Then I slept at the house Rebekah is house sitting in. Pray that I would get more sleep and rest and that my sinus pressure would be alleviated.
Week 5 Day 2
January 26, 2014
Today I had church all day. It was refreshing but I am so tired. I need more sleep. Rebekah gave me a ride home. Thankful for her. The sermons today were on being doers of the word and not only hearers; and being stewards of our money, time, body, health, and mind.
Thank you for reading.
Thank you for all your prayers.
Thank you for all your support.
Dwelling in His approval,
Amy Drake
